Sunday 2nd December 2019
The event consisted of two classes; a Policar GP for Policar F1 cars and an Endurance Race for GT Sports Cars between 1965 – 1971.
10 racers came along with Alan Wilkinson, Graham Edwards, Mick and Rob Kerr coming from a far for their first visit to our track. David Farrow was hoping to join us but suffered a breakdown on the journey down and had to be Relayed home.
The event kicked off with the F1 Policar GP. These cars are basically standard but were required to comply to the Regulations set out for the Policar GP event held at the Slot Car Festival at Gaydon. Racing in the qualifying heats was very close and there were was some very exciting racing. The standard of driving was very high and the total number of “Offs” for all 11 heats was just under ten. Onto the “Step up finals” in which Alan Wilkinson progressed from the ‘C’ to the ‘B’ final. His progress ended there with Graham Robinson taking the final place in the ‘A’ final.
Top spot in the ‘A’ final went to local racer Alan Shawe, 1st, followed by highest placed visitor Rob Kerr 2nd, Colin Wilkinson 3rd and Graham Robinson 4th. Alan and Rob can be seen in the right-hand picture.
In the afternoon we were joined by Mark Nicholson so 11 racers lined up for the endurance race. Right from the start the standard of driving was so high and you could almost hear the concentration. Once again many on track battles ensued which caught the attention of all watching, only broken by collective sighs when one of the racers de-slotted. At the flag Alan Shawe again took top spot with Colin Wilkinson 2nd and Mark Nicholson 3rd. Highest placed visitor was Mick Kerr in 6th. The first two finishers in the Sports / G.T. class can be seen on the left.
