Time for our second one-off Tuesday night of the season. Although several regular members were not present a couple of recent and very welcome new members swelled the starting grid to ten drivers. The roulette idea has become a firm favourite on such nights and this time we chose to run the races with saloon cars, but not necessarily those conforming to our regular Saloon regulations (though in fact, most were regular Tuesday night saloons). With our extremely expensive new dice shaker, we each made sure that a) we did not drive our own cars and b) we never drove the same car twice. This led to many throws of the dice before eligible cars were chosen. Naturally some were much luckier than others - your writer being a prime example of this - while others suffered hugely with their 'choices' as not all the cars had anything like similar performance levels. But in the end, the cream always rises to the top.........

| Following the consumption of tea, coffee and biscuits (but no Jaffa Cakes this week) part two of the evening commenced. As with the event back in March, a Formula Libre competition was instigated but unlike the previous special night, this time the races were 4 minutes endurance grinds. With ten drivers present, this ensured our latest finish for quite some time. As befits the Formula Libre title, a very varied array of vehicles were used, ranging from G.T. rocket ships, through vaguely shaped pseudo-Ferrari F.1 cars down to pre-WW2 never-raced Grand Prix plodders. As ever, it was great fun and Richard came very close to breaking Alan's absolute circuit lap record, of course, using a 'proper' slot car! Had we run on our maximum voltage, you never know.......... |
